When installing under a non-pks website (as a subsite) do we use the command line such as SSM.EXE Install PKSFUll.xml http://server/subsite ???

I can add a podcast and it says "vide was uploaded" but when i look in the physical DIR the file is not there and the podcast page shows nothing.

Hi all,

When i try to start Media Encoder Service, I am receving the fallowing errior message. even i uninstalled and reinstalled the service still getting same prob. Pls suggest me on this.

The Media Encoder service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.

Created Issue: Upload control showing 100% but not rendering [14439]

I've installed the PKS solution in 2 environments, now on the prod environment we are getting an error with the upload control. All required entries are in the web configs to render the control; all the settings have been reviewed and appear to be correct. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but am still seeing this error message & the control, just spins to 100% and never loads. See attached screenshots. Any ideas?

Dears

I got "Service does not exist" error message when rating a video in podcast detail page.
after click "OK", also pop-Up another error "This item does not exist in the rating store."
Are there any configuration need to check?
Please help me to resolve this error, thanks...

Commented Issue: Issue with large files and march build [7960]

I am having issues with the encoder and large files with the march build on farm. When I upload a file larger than 80mb, it fails to generate a thumb nail and does not show up in the silverlight player. In the encoder log, you can see it is stuck at 'Item created *************************) stage. Any ideas would be appreciated. Attached is a sample log file.

Created Issue: Duration is not getting updated in the PKS Web-Application [12255]

We have a PKS enabled web-application in our environment, everything looks fine however the Duration (Single line in text) field is in PKS Podcasts List is not getting updated correctly while uploading a file/Item (Video/Audio).

Due to this, The Home page is showing "00:00:00" against the duration field (obviously, PKS Podcasts List is updated with "00:00:00"). I reactivated the PKS Podcast List Update Handler site feature however it does not help.

In the meantime, I found that the duration is coming up without any issues if the file does not require any Conversion (i.e., mp3,.flv) which means it could be an issue with MediaEncoder or a handler which runs after the conversion however could not find any valuable clue on this,.

Which is the Handler is responsible to update the thumbnail & Duration (is it UpdateDurationThumbnailHandler - MediaInfo ) and how it works?

Where can I find the error logs (could not find it in the ULS Log)

Created Issue: Microsoft.PKS.MediaInfo coding issues [11631]

I was looking at the source for the Microsoft.PKS.MediaInfo class and noticed what I think is a few mistakes. Of course, I may be wrong.

1) I'm pretty sure the line of code in the 'RetrieveThumbnail' method that reads:

int bufferSize = (rowLength * Resolution.Height) + VideoHeaderSize;

should be..

int bufferSize = (rowLength * Resolution.Height) + BitMapInfoHeaderSize;

Where 'BitMapInfoHeaderSize' can be defined as:

private static readonly int BitMapInfoHeaderSize = Marshal.SizeOf(typeof(WinApiInteropStructs.BitmapInfoHeader));

Because the space required to store the bitmap includes a 'bit map header' and not a 'video header'.

also I think the 'VideoHeaderSize' in the lines below should also be changed to 'BitMapInfoHeaderSize'

2) Numerous places in the class create instances of the 'new DexterLib.MediaDetClass()' class, but none seems to 'clean up' afterwards. My understanding is that to release resources propery, you need to 'free' each of these instances. For example:

... do stuff ...
}
finally

Marshal.ReleaseComObject(det);
}

3) In the 'Microsoft.PKS.GfxUtils' class, there are places like 'WriteText' method, 'ConvertBitmapToArgb' method that use the construct 'Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(..)'. However, 'dispose' is never called on 'g' graphics instance. Maybe the 'using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(..))' construct could be employed here.

Commented Issue: PKS Configuration Settings List - Missing [11496]

I have installed the August 09 version and once I get to the Media Encoder Service section of the documentation I quickly find out that the PKS Configuration Settings list does not exist on my site. I have searched for the issue and the only thing I've seen regarding it is check one of the subsites and copy from there. Well on install you don't have subsites just the root site. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get this list, can it be created manually or do I have to go to the extreme and do a reinstall? Any advice would and will be appreciated.

Resolved the issue by running the install again. However, before you do that make a backup of your web.config file then after re-install replace the existing one.

I have finally gotten everything installed and services started and I start to test so I go to upload a video and I immediately receive the error:

An unexpected error has occurred.
Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.

Of course I get no other information or direction to go look so......does anyone have any ideas?

I have installed PKS successfully on server. When I click on RSS feed it works fine but on any other server the RSS Feed gives error:

Hi there,

I will start summing up my installation:

- PKS Build August 2009 Beta
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter
- Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2007
- Expression Encoder 3
- MS SQL 2008

The podcastingkit is installed according the installation. The detailpage isn't working properly though... I've found some solutions on some fora, but they all didn't fix the problem. I suspect the detail page isn't working because the CsId isn't generated. Can somebody help me with this problem?

Rather than creating a few different threads I thought I'd post my problems in one thread;

I've installed the Aug 09 beta on a development install of SharePoint 2007 (patched up to and inc. Dec updates). This is running on Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 as the db server. I've been through the instructions and set everything up as per the instructions. I've installed Expression Encoder 3.0 and can open it OK, I have the Desktop Experience feature enabled. I am having the following difficulties;

1. I can upload files ok (I used the podcasts on the 3Sharp sample site) and they are being uploaded to the correct folder. The Silverlight upload functionality works fine. However, no thumbnail or duration statistics are generated. On reviewing the encoder log file the following is shown in relation to the uploaded file;

Which is strange because Expression Encoder appears to be installed fine and the Microsoft.Expression.Encoder assembly is in the Windows assembly folder. The podcast details page for the podcast doesn't allow me to play it, only record comments. If I try to use the Generate Thumbnail or Make it compatiable with Silverlight options, I get the following javascript error in the PKS-Script.js file;

Message: 'length' is null or not an object

If I go to the PKS Podcasts lists, a popup states Unable to retireve configuration settings.

I'm assuming all of the above are related which is why I've put them all together.

2. When I get to the part of the instructions detailing how to setup the Metadata propery mappings, some of the items are not available for mapping, even after doing a full index. Initially even the ows_AuthorID property wasn't available and then I performed a full index an it appeared. However some of them still aren't available, such as CsId.

I may encounter more problems as it seems to be a very fragile package but I can't even get the basics working currently, so I'd appreciate any advice to get me up and running.

Commented Issue: Content Rating Configuration Settings in your PKS Website is missing [8826]

Howdy all,

Just following the installation guide and have came to page 11, Section "PKS Rating and Commenting skin, Roll Up Configuration".

It states:

1. In your PKS web site open the custom list Content Rating Configuration Settings
2. Update the key RaterSkin with the value dark.htm. It is easier to update this key using the datasheet view.
3. Change the value with true of key EnableRollUp.
4. Change the value with Author of key RollUpColumnName.
5. Change the value with false of key RatingDisplayPopupCommentControl. This value ensures that text box does not come up while rating. For commenting a separate text box is provided on the podcast detail page. These comments will be stored in the list PodcastComments on the site.

However on my PKS Site (http://server/video/podcasts) there is no such list named "Content Rating Configuration Settings"

Could someone provide guidance on this issue please?

Hmm, interesting. So try this.......Go to your site collection(http://yoursitegoeshere (note: if it's a subsite(http://yoursitegoeshere/subsitenamegoeshere) go there).

Click on Site Actions then
Click on View All Site Content.

You should see something similar to the image attached. In the List section you should see Content Rating Configuration Settings

Hi,
My Subsites are unable to stram podcasts when the silverlight player is played. Also evrytime I try to Rate or comment anonymously, It pops up a login window.
When I am logged in as an administrator it works fine.
I've enabled anonymous access to view + add for PKS COmmentsList and also enabled Ratings for PKS Podcast. Also Anonymous access is there for entire site.
Would really appreciate help in resolving whatever I am missing here.

I wanted to add my 2cents to this. I think I having the same problem as well. In the PODCASTDETAIL page I can see the video but I can't play it. When I click on the play button nothing happens. As for Ratings I'm having a similar issue and I attached a screen cap of my event viewer that may help you call out some database issues.

I'm hoping the expert who intercedes this post will be able to answer both our issues since they seem similar.

Please help. I have inched my way through all the problems I have had installing this for at least a week. I'm almost there. I have two problems which I have researched in this Dbase and still can't find a good answer.

1. I can see the video/snapshot on the podcaster detail page and when I hover over the image it show the play menu etc but when I click the play button nothing happens. I am logged remote from another PC, does that matter?

2. Rating not working, is there one general area to look in? Seems everyone else probs are different than mines?
