Hi All
I get the same error and also an error in encoder log, I trace it to the config.log of the media-encoder. It says
[2009-08-27 13:20:41] Reading configuration...
[2009-08-27 13:20:44] configWeb=http://expo
[2009-08-27 13:20:44] configList=PKS Configuration Settings
[2009-08-27 13:20:44] externalStoresList=PKS Media Encoder Monitor Locations
[2009-08-27 13:21:02] Loading configuration from list web service...
[2009-08-27 13:23:14] Configuration web service for 'PKS Configuration Settings' values have changed.
[2009-08-27 13:23:14] Loading external file stores from list web service...

[2009-08-27 13:23:14] Loading auto encode from list web service...
[2009-08-27 13:23:14] Auto encode web service request failed.
[2009-08-27 13:23:15] Progress[configTimer_Tick]: Re-reading configuration
[2009-08-27 13:23:15] Loading configuration from list web service...
[2009-08-27 13:23:15] Configuration web service for 'PKS Configuration Settings' values are unchanged.
[2009-08-27 13:23:15] Loading external file stores from list web service...
[2009-08-27 13:23:15] External file stores web service request failed.
[2009-08-27 13:23:15] Loading auto encode from list web service...

To me this indicates that there are errors in the List "PKS Media Encoder Monitor Locations" when these are loaded (External file stores web service request failed)?
I have checked those settings but I can't find any error??
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance
/Lars

Hi xiongshanghui, Lars,

I would suggest that you check whether the file is actually getting uploaded in UploadFiles folder and the CsId is generated for that podcast item (CsId is a column in list PKS Podcasts).

Detail page will render completely only when CsId value is present for that item.

If file is not getting uploaded, try to delete and recreate the virtual directory UploadFolder and map it to UploadFiles folder on the disk. Do an IISRESET.

If CsId is not getting generated then it is possible that file format is not supported OR there is some error while uploading. You can test with by uploading a wmv file.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Parak
I can now upload files but I still get errors in my encoder log.
I still get this messagein encoder.log
[2009-08-31 11:37:28] Error[RunAutoEncode]: HardwareDeviceH264Small - This feature is not available in the Express version.
Would encoder 3.0 solve this problem and can I use encoder 3.0 out of the box or do I have to reconfigure PKS.
regards
/Lars

Hi all,

I am facing the same issue. I can upload files successfully but unable to run video on PodcastDetails.aspx.

I am getting error in encoder.log:

[9/14/2009 11:12:02 AM] Update[UpdateListItem] 0x00000000
[9/14/2009 11:12:02 AM] New item values calculated...
[9/14/2009 11:12:05 AM] Error[RunAutoEncode]: HardwareDeviceH264Small - This feature is not available in the Express version.

Thanks

Now I am getting this error.

When I upload a wmv file to pks, nothing appears in the upload folder at all.  Checking the pks podcasts list, the item doesn't have a csId.  Note that when I upload (which it says is successful), nothing is shown on the homepage - my list of podcasts remains empty.

I have checked all entries for web.config, have reinstalled media encoder and recreated the UploadFolder virtual directory - all to no avail.

Any ideas?

@k3larra , @ssiddiqui: From the error it seems that you made the entries in the Media Encoder Auto Encode list but you dont have the Licensed version of Microsoft Expression Encoder.

If you don't want the iTunes support (H264 encoding) then you can remove the entries from the Media Encoder Auto Encode list. Make sure that you restart the Media Encoder Service once after removing entries from the list.

If you want the iTunes support (H264 encoding) then you will need the Licensed version of the Encoder.

@davepyett : There seems to be an issue with your upload folder as the file is not getting added to it and hence the subsequent processing is not happening. You can delete the virtual directory UploadFolder (located within IIS Manager under layouts -> NetworkFileStore directory of the site where PKS is deployed ) and recreate it under the same path and set the path to the UploadFiles folder. Do an IISRESET.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, tried that already.  I've recreated the folder (and even given everyone full rights to this) plus recreated the virtual directory in inetmgr (again, giving full access) but still no sign of any files appearing in the folder :(

@davepyet: Can you verify below points?

Go to PKS Podcast list, go to Settings>List settings, Under columns section check if you find "NFS Xml Blob" entry.

then follow below steps

  1. Go back to the settings for the PKS Podcasts list, click Podcast Files in the Columns section.
  2. Delete the column.
  3. Create new Column named as PodcastFiles of Type Network File Store.
  4. Rename this column to Podcast Files.

and once again create virtual directory as given above.

Do an iisreset.

Thanks JL!!

Recreating the column under PKS Podcasts list did the trick and now I can upload podcasts etc into the system and all is working as expected!

Cheers! :)
