problem generating thumbnail, viewing podcastdetails page

Aug 22, 2009 at 6:16 AM

I have installed the July beta on a fresh install of PKS using Sharepoint 2007, SQL Server 2008 and Windows 2008.  In trying to confirm the operation of my media encoder and Silverlight player and have run into some problems.  My thumbnails will not generate and the duration is not displayed on the Podcasts page.  On the Podcastdetails page I don't see the silverlight player webpart - only the Comment, search, Podcaster's Information, Co-Podcaster info and Podcast Tools webparts.  In my PKS Podcast settings list, I don't have a column called EfsField.  I think I need it, however, if I add it manually, it does not seem to help.

Here are my config files:

hi,

i think you need to change your media service config file. What ever you pasted above is the default file. you need to change the value for configWeb, it should be same as url of your pks site.

and also change the MediaEncode.MoniterWeb value in PKS Configuration settings list.

Thanks,

Thanks for your suggestion Naresh.

My site in its simplicity as followed the default config of the installation as closely as possibly and while I think I've followed the install document quite closely, I have probably missed something.  I've been over the installation several times with no results.  My site is accessed via  http://pks, however, I do have an AAM to a FQDN.  The config files fit my install values.  Have made an error in trying to do the default install?

Thanks again.

Hi Obadiah,

Is the file getting uploaded properly to the C:\UploadFiles folder.?

Also you have made the correct entries in the PKS Media Encoder Monitor Locations list as described in the Installation guide?

Hello Parag ...

The files seem to upload correctly - that is, when I look in the C:\UploadFiles folder I can see the files there in the webid and listid subfolders.  I believe I have made all the entries in the PKS Media Encoder Monitor Locations list as described in the guide.  The one difference is that I did not have a EfsField field so I've added.  Can you tell me what step this field wsa to be create?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Hello Parag ...

In ensuring that the app pool identity was the id my site was using my problems seems to be resolved.  This is wonderful.  I'm looking forward to introducing PKS to teachers in our program.  I used the Service Accounts link under Operations in Centreal Admin.  Once I retyped the password and reset iis and the encoder all seemed to be well! (I had also reinstalled PKS but got the same problem.)

One problem I have now is that when I used the tag cloud or the search.  The link to the video breaks.  When I hover over the graphic, I notice that the URL is not to my AAM but rather to the http://pks resouce.  How can I resolve this?  Also, sometimes the search does not discover any resource, however, I know there is a matching resource.

Finally, how does the Editor's Choice tab get populated?  Is there an explicit selection that someone makes or is it automated.
