March Beta - Encode Problem?

Apr 15, 2009 at 4:38 PM
I recently updated from october release to March release.  Anytime I try to upload a media file it won't play, it doesn't show time or size and when I click encode for silverlight I get an error in the Encoder Queue List.

So I am struggling to understand all the required setup of the encoder to ensure that files uploaded for podcasts are able to be viewed and converted.

In the queue log for the encoder I get the following message.

[4/15/2009 11:30:29 AM] Progress[webServiceTimer_Tick]: Queue entry for 'I:\UploadFiles\\cb99b062-41fe-4028-a875-80c1d0c43505\035d074b-cc20-460f-878c-4b78a28bea4b\61\f75c7fde-8f38-452a-93b63d6.wmv'
[4/15/2009 11:30:29 AM] Update[UpdateQueueItem]: Updating itemId '16' with status 'In Progress'
[4/15/2009 11:30:29 AM] Update[UpdateQueueItem] Update Success
[4/15/2009 11:30:37 AM] Update[UpdateQueueItem]: Updating itemId '16' with status 'Error'
[4/15/2009 11:30:37 AM] Update[UpdateQueueItem] Update Success
[4/15/2009 11:30:37 AM] Error[webServiceTimer_Tick]: An unknown error has occurred

Now I think I have two problems here.

  1. Why doesn't this wmv file play without conversion?
  2. What is wrong with the encoder that it would fail?

I am also wondering what settings should be placed into the Media Encoder Auto Encode list.  I think this might be causing both my issues, but I can't find anything on the site that explains the entire setup for the encoder to work correctly.

Thoughts?

Well it appears that I may have a wmv file that doesn't convert or isn't in a friendly format.  I downloaded a few videos from the internet and they uploaded and converted just fine.  Not sure what is going on with this file, but all appears to be well with the PKS March Beta.
