What file type will play without having to encode

Hi, September release is installed and functioning really well,

But what I cant work out is what formats is the silverlight player meant to play,

Ive downloaded the wmv files from a podcast test link off this site and they work, but wmv's created by a micosoft photostory will not play they have to be encoded also avi's will not play unless encoded.

I thought the silverlight player should be able to play avi mpeg etc,

At the moment the only way I can get them to play is physically open expression encoder, add the job and encode to wmv, how can I see what happens when i click the encode button on the podcast site.

I can see the media encoded queue but where can I see a live encoder activity log.

You will find a list of format supported by Silverlight on the Silverlight web site. The encoder queue and encoding progress is visible in the MediaEncoder log file. We're planning to make this progress information visible into Sharepoint in order to infor the user as well of the status of the encoding operation.
