Is Podcasting kit project abandoned?

Apr 29, 2010 at 10:44 PM

Sharepoint 2010 is now out and the kit hasn't been updated since July.  Any updates as to what's going on?

This is the second thing we'd like to know about.  We will be interested to hear what you have to say.

Thanks!

Hello PKS Team,

we actually decided in the company, that we will use PKS as Media Portal for a World wide roll-out.

Now we are on the decision, if we wait until the PKS for SharePoint 2010 is out or if we setup the Portal on SharePoint 2007.  Could you please specify "coming weeks"?
As you now, "coming weeks" could be everything from 2-3 weeks to a couple of months... I really need that information for the decision Meeting!

Thanks,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

As you have noted the current PKS project will not be moved forward to SharePoint 2010, as many of the features, including social, media playback and storage configurations are now out of the box in SharePoint 2010. My recommendation would be to move directly to SharePoint 2010 to take advantage of these features and broader integration with the other capabilities such as integration with My Sites and Enterprise Search.

We are in the process of completing a migration utility (export from PKS, import to SharePoint 2010) and expect to have that published to the PKS site by the end of June, by that time we also expect to have guidance shared for configuring Podcasting Sites in SharePoint 2010.

I understand the timing challenge this creates for your company, please contact me directly via CodePlex and I will try to provide any more context that might be helpful for you.

Thanks,
-a

Austin,

Thanks for the follow-up!  I'm not certain myself when we are moving to SharePoint 2010, so I'll share this information with the reset of my team and let them know that if it'll be a while until we go to 2010 that we could use this and that there would be a tool to migrate if we decide to start here!  This information has been very useful.  Thanks, again.

Update on Podcasting Guidance / Migration for SharePoint 2010

We will be delayed publishing this guidance, apologies to the late notice. Next week I will provide an update with revised timelines.

Thanks for your continued support and enthusiasm about Podcasting.

Hello All,

my MS Technical Account Manager told me today, that MS will not develop PKS for SP 2010 or any SP 2010 sitetemplate... So no hope for the future...

Greetings,
Andreas
